Our Inspiration

Picture of Mildred Perry

Mildred L. Perry (February 3, 1938 – April 30, 2020)

Candy Cares, Inc. was founded in honor of my grandmother, Mildred L. Perry, whose love of cooking was matched only by her love of caring for others. She found joy in feeding everyone around her, whether they were family, friends, or neighbors. For her, sharing a meal was more than providing food. It was a way of showing love, bringing people together, and making sure others were cared for.

Watching my grandmother use food to serve others inspired my own love of cooking and eventually led me to open a catering business. After she passed away in 2020, I wanted to find a meaningful way to continue the example she had set throughout her life.

I founded Candy Cares, Inc. to carry her spirit of generosity beyond our family and into the community. What began with the simple idea of providing warm meals to people in need has grown into an organization that provides meals, groceries, and other essential resources to individuals and families facing food insecurity.

Every meal served and every family helped allows us to continue the legacy my grandmother began: caring for others with kindness, dignity, and love.
